How To Hide Files and Folders Using Command Prompt in Windows XP/7/vista

As we know that Privacy is hard to come by these days. Whether you are sharing a computer or any one of your friends, relatives who occasionally access your computer, If you have any personal or confidential data in your PC and you don't wanna to let other to see it. then this trick will be very helpful to you.

Mostly, there are many number of software's are available in the market to hide folders, files and hard drives. but without using any software, am going to show you how to perform hiding folders.

For instance: Let us Say you have a folder with name “PERSONAL” which is stored in drive ” F ” and you think your friends or strangers should not see this folder.

Follow the below Steps to HIDE Folder

  • Press Windows Key + Run, a Run commander will appear.
    cmd-run
  • type cmd in the Run and press enter.
  • After that command prompt will open, type " \attrib +s +h F:\PERSONAL" and hit enter.

  • Thats it! Your folder is now hidden, if not then u did some mistake while giving location, it cannot be viewed by any search option Once its hidden.

Steps to UNHIDE Folder

  • Follow the above 2 step.
  • replace '+' with '-' ("\attrib -s -h F:\PERSONAL") and hit enter.

  • Thats it! Your folder is now visible in the hard drive.
